Found an internet cafe in Quito, so I thought i'd update y'all. Ecuador is fucking awesome. We've spent two weeks doing conservation work and getting drunk in the rainforest, and we're just about to move onto the mountain phase (and cotopaxi). We got mugged one day by some guy with a massive machete. I only lost $20, so all was cool (and the experience was still awesome). We also built a treehouse and a path through the forest. I tell you, waking up in a hamock in the middle of the Amazon is one of the coolest experiences it's possible to have.
